The Trend: Anyone who works out regularly knows the search for the “perfect shoe” basically never ends. We’re usually looking for something that helps us run faster or jump higher, but now Nike has introduced a line (The Mind 001 and Mind 002) designed to help your brain perform better, too. These “neuroscience-based” shoes, built with squishy underfoot pods, are meant to stimulate sensory nerves and help athletes feel more focused and grounded during their activities.

What People Are Saying: It’s a pretty intriguing concept. More sensation in your feet really can, in theory, influence how present you feel in your body. Nike even hooked athletes up to EEG monitors to see how their brains responded and found increased activity in areas linked to attention and awareness. Some testers said the effect felt surprisingly soothing. Even Nike, however, admits this is still early-stage science.

What to Know: These shoes live somewhere between mindfulness tools and performance gear. The concept isn’t far-fetched, as sensory input can affect focus, but it’s still unclear how beneficial they could be for average people.

Bottom Line: For now, this looks more like a fun innovation than a must-have.
