Here’s Why Liver Health Supplements Are Taking Off

The Trend: Liver health is the new “it” thing in wellness. On Vitaminshoppe’s website, searches for “liver health” increased nearly 700% so far in 2026, while sales in the liver cleanse category have almost doubled, per The Vitamin Shoppe’s 2026 wellness trend report.
What People Are Saying: In The Vitamin Shoppe’s words, “Consumers are moving beyond short-term cleanses and embracing liver health as part of a broader strategy for long-term metabolic health and vitality.” While doctors appreciate that people are becoming more attuned to their liver health, they warn against so-called liver cleanses. Hepatologists say that “science shows little benefit in taking supplements for liver health” and that some products can actually be harmful.
What to Know: The liver is the largest internal organ in the human body and performs more than 500 functions — so taking care of it is a good idea. But you don’t need supplements to do that. Proven ways to support your liver include limiting exposure to toxins and pollutants, limiting alcohol consumption, staying up-to-date on vaccines, and eating plenty of nutrient-dense foods.
