The Trend: Coffee, long side-eyed as a bad habit, is getting a reassessment. As more people reframe it from guilty pleasure to a small act of self-care, brands are updating what goes in your cup.

What People Are Saying: This shift isn’t happening in a vacuum. Decades of research now suggest coffee may support health rather than harm it. At the same time, skepticism about artificial sweeteners and dyes is pushing companies to clean up formulas, while demand for protein keeps climbing. On social media, “proffee” — mixing protein powder or a ready-to-drink shake with coffee — has taken off. Starbucks has leaned in by dropping corn syrup and offering more nutrient-minded and protein-packed options.

What To Know: A coffee break can double as a nutrition break when you add protein or other healthy ingredients. But it’s not a free pass to overdo it. The FDA cites up to 400 milligrams of caffeine a day — about two to three 12-ounce cups — as safe for most adults, though sensitivity varies. Think of coffee as one part of a healthy routine, best enjoyed in moderation.
