Do Meditation Apps Actually Work?

Downloading Better Vibes: Have you ever downloaded a meditation app to find relief when stress runs high or sleep won’t come? With many of us more anxious than ever, millions turn to apps for calm. Studies show they now make up 96% of the mental health app market. But do they actually work?

The Study: Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University reviewed dozens of randomized trials and found that the answer is often yes, they do. Using a meditation app regularly was linked to feeling calmer overall, with noticeable improvements in both mood and sleep.

The Takeaway: Meditation apps can help, especially if you’re starting from scratch. According to the data, just 10 to 21 minutes of meditation app exercises done three times a week is enough to see measurable results, so it may be easier than you think to fit mindfulness into daily life, whether that’s a short session before bed or while waiting at an appointment.

Keep In Mind: The catch is that benefits only show up with consistency, yet 95% of people stop after 30 days. Start small (aim for 5-10 minutes, 3 times a week) with an app you like and commit to making it a part of your routine. Ultimately, meditation is like fitness, where consistency matters more than intensity for lasting results.
