The Trend: Remember “girl dinner,” the massive trend of odd foods or snack plates eaten instead of “proper” meals? Then think of “boy kibble” as its even more utilitarian counterpart. The trend started in January when a TikToker posted a bowl of ground beef and rice — and the concept took off from there. Part of what’s driving the trend is how little brain space it takes up, as one of the biggest obstacles to cooking more often at home is the time and mental energy required to meal-plan. Boy kibble sidesteps that entirely.

What People Are Saying: Fitness-focused creators love it for helping them hit daily protein targets with minimal effort and cost. Ground beef is a complete protein with a strong nutritional profile, and the carbohydrates in rice can help replenish energy after a workout. However, nutrition experts point out that eating the basic version too frequently leaves gaps in fiber and key vitamins.

What to Know: The base concept of boy kibble is solid: simple, home-cooked meals. Throwing in some frozen vegetables or occasionally swapping the rice for nutrient-rich quinoa goes a long way toward rounding things out, without adding much more complexity to the cooking process.
