Wiggling Towards Weight Loss

You Should Know: Vibration plates are all over TikTok, touted to melt fat, tone muscle, build bone density, and “drain your lymphatic system.”But experts say the calorie burn these devices trigger is roughly on par with a brisk walk, and overall the research remains mixed.
Going Deeper: Whole-body vibration triggers rapid muscle contractions that can modestly boost energy expenditure. It may help drain fluid from legs, but benefits for lymphedema and lipedema are limited unless paired with standard care such as manual lymphatic drainage.
Takeaway: Vibration plates can offer small gains in strength and possibly weight loss when combined with diet, and they have rehab uses — but they aren’t meaningfully better than walking or conventional training.
Bottom Line: Be wary of “hacks.” Traditional exercises paired with a diet done consistently over time are still the gold standard for weight loss.
