Omega-3 Benefits May Fade Fast

You Should Know: Plenty of people take daily omega-3 supplements for metabolic, heart, and brain health. But new research from Finland shows their effects might be more personal than we thought. And they fade quickly once you stop taking them.
Going Deeper: Scientists at the University of Helsinki gave 38 healthy adults daily fish oil capsules and tracked how their blood responded. Researchers noticed that everyone responded differently to the supplements, a phenomenon they describe as a unique “lipid fingerprint.” For example, some people showed noticeable improvements in health markers, while others didn’t see much change at all. However, those with the lowest baseline omega-3 levels had the strongest response. Still, the benefits faded within just a few days for all participants when they stopped taking the capsules.
Takeaway: Fish oil can play a role in supporting your health, but it’s not one-size-fits-all. How well it works depends on your body’s individual chemistry and how regularly you take it.
Bottom Line: Paying attention to how your body responds to a supplement is the best way to know whether it’s truly helping you.
