The Rise of Nootropic Pouches

The Trend: If syrupy energy drinks aren’t your thing, you’ve got a new option when you need a pick-me-up: Nootropic pouches. With names like Wip, Nectr, Grinds, and Boost, the performance pouches contain caffeine and other nootropics, such as L-theanine, chromium, lion’s mane, and vitamin B12. They look a lot like Zyn pouches, and some even contain nicotine.
What People Are Saying: Nootropics are natural or synthetic “smart drugs” that can improve attention, memory, and more. The pouches contain varying amounts of caffeine — typically, 30 mg to 200 mg (roughly the same as two cups of coffee). Ingredients are absorbed directly into the bloodstream through the gum and cheek, bypassing the digestive system and delivering a kick faster than a coffee or Red Bull.
What to Know: Some are trying (nicotine-free) nootropic pouches to quit Zyn or other nicotine products. But there are downsides. Because the pouches are so portable and poppable, it’s easy to overdo it on the caffeine. (The recommended max per day is 400 mg.) Additionally, some pouch ingredients may irritate gum tissue, which can result in gum recession.
