Your Next Fitness Coach Might Be a Robot

The Trend: It’s official. AI is — undoubtedly and inarguably — everywhere. It’s showing up more and more in fitness, particularly, with apps like Runna promising to safely coach you through everything from 5Ks to ultramarathons. JuggernautAI claims to prepare you for powerlifting PRs and bodybuilding competitions. Macrofactor sets your macros and leads you to weight loss, muscle growth, or other nutrition-driven goals.
What People Are Saying: Some are quick to point out that AI trainers are much more financially accessible than traditional fitness coaching. This could lead to improvements in health outcomes across the board as they encourage more people to take control of their diet and bodies. As others put it, GenAI may create a good workout plan, but “good” is very different from “optimal.”
What to Know: AI fitness and nutrition coaching isn’t going anywhere, and honestly, it just keeps improving. But an app still can’t replace the human touch or the connection you make with an in-the-flesh coach. Credentialed professionals offer levels of personalization that no robo-coach can provide. And the more advanced your goals become, the more nuance you will need for progress.
