I have deep ties to Massachusetts. My father was born there, along with his nine brothers and sisters, and we spent a lot of time visiting family there when I was growing up. Later, I went to college in Western Massachusetts. So naturally, I have a soft spot for all things Mass: the Red Sox, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, terrible driving, Dunkin’.

And yet, even with all that affection, I think we should all steer clear of this particular Dunkin’ concoction.

Can Psilocybin Rewire Your Brain?

Psyched: Psychedelics have gained a lot of ground as a treatment, not just as a trip. Psilocybin, the “magic” compound in mushrooms, has been studied as a therapy for depression, PTSD, anxiety, and substance-use disorders. Recent research published in Nature Communications sheds new light on how — and how quickly — psilocybin changes the brain.

The Study: Researchers gave 28 adults who’d never tried psychedelics before a “placebo” dose (1 mg) of psilocybin, then measured their brain activity with an EEG. Participants then underwent a series of tests and scans for the following month to measure their wellbeing, thinking ability, and psychological insight. After the testing was completed, the researchers repeated the experiment with the participants, this time giving them 25 mg doses of psilocybin.

The Takeaway: The research team found a single dose of psilocybin created anatomical changes in the brain, which persisted even a month later. Within an hour of taking the psychedelic, participants experienced a surge in their brain entropy, the brain’s neural activity and information-processing. Those who had bigger entropic spikes also reported greater wellbeing and deeper psychological insight.

Keep in Mind: The study was small. More research is needed to determine therapeutic next steps from these findings.

Your Scale Might Be Telling You Too Little

Most of us use the scale as a progress report. But weight alone can’t tell you whether you’re gaining muscle, losing fat, holding water, or just seeing a normal daily fluctuation. That’s where Hume Body Pod makes the data more useful.

In under 90 seconds, it delivers 45+ body composition metrics, including fat and muscle tracking with 98% DEXA-level correlation, so you can see what’s happening beneath the surface. For anyone trying to eat better, train smarter, or simply understand their body with less guesswork, that extra context can make the whole process feel less frustrating.

How to Bring Up a Pet Peeve Without Starting a Fight

Curated Lifestyle/Unsplash
Little Big Problems: This one is for all of the avoidant people pleasers out there trying to thrive in a relationship. Letting pet peeves go unaddressed might feel easier in the moment when you're one half of a couple, but avoiding them tends to push the tension underground, where it hardens into resentment. And it will find a way to get out sooner or later.

How to Do It: Before you bring something up, be honest with yourself about what the issue is and what you want from the conversation. Timing is also of the utmost importance for delicate conversations, so wait for a moment when neither of you feels tired or distracted. Then lead with how you feel rather than what your partner did, and frame it as something you want to figure out together.

The Benefits: Couples who can talk about small things tend to stay more connected, and that connection is kind of the whole point of being in a relationship. Even completely unresolvable differences can be managed with curiosity instead of contempt. Above all, don't try to fix your partner. Instead, the goal is to feel a little less alone in stewing about the thing that's bothering you.

How Many Wellness Influencers Are Actually Doctors?

You Should Know: Doctors are still the most common health resource for Americans, but the office isn't the only place people get info. A new Pew Research Center analysis finds four-in-ten U.S. adults (and half of those under 50) get health and wellness information from social media influencers or podcasts. Those without health insurance turn to them at high rates too.

Going Deeper: Pew analyzed nearly 7,000 wellness influencers and found under half had actual credentials. About 41% claim some health care background, including the 17% who identify as conventional medical professionals (like doctors or nurses). Another 31% list themselves as coaches and 28% as entrepreneurs, with 16% having no mention of expertise at all. Most run on Instagram (86%) and TikTok (62%), with fitness, weight loss, beauty, and mental health topping the topics.

Takeaway: Many of these creators offer useful suggestions, but credentials and accuracy vary. Trust is iffy too as just one-in-ten followers say they trust all or most of what they hear.

Bottom Line: Influencers can spark a question worth asking your doctor, but they shouldn’t replace any doctor’s visit.

Collé Collage Kit

One of the things I’m working on this year is spending more focused time away from screens. So far, that’s meant working my way through a few puzzles and reading quite a few books. Next up? Trying my hand at collage.

I hadn’t really thought of collage as an activity until our sister brand, Collé, began selling little kits designed to make it easier to start. Each one comes with an exercise guide, collage materials, and tools like an X-Acto blade, cutting mat, glue stick, and tape runner. The idea is to make the practice a little more accessible, whether you’re someone like me looking for a good offline activity, a family searching for something fun to do together, or an artist hoping to switch up your creative practice.

Pear & Gorgonzola Salad

Serves: 4 | Cook Time: 10 minutes

A homemade lunch salad doesn’t have to be just lettuce and dressing — it can be complex and flavorful, while still delivering the fiber. This one combines sweet pear, funky Gorgonzola, and the satisfying crunch of walnuts for a balanced mix of textures. Tossed in a light, refreshing vinaigrette, this colorful salad is hearty enough to enjoy on its own — or add chicken or fish for an extra boost of protein.

Even It Out

Whenever possible, carry items evenly in both hands instead of loading one side. This keeps your body balanced and reduces strain. Small adjustments like this add up over time.
