| For the first time in more than 20 years, Americans are getting a new sunscreen option. This week, the FDA approved bemotrizinol, a UV-filtering ingredient already used in Europe and other parts of the world. The appeal is pretty simple. Bemotrizinol helps block both UVA and UVB rays, doesn’t appear to absorb easily into the bloodstream, and is considered more cosmetically elegant than some mineral sunscreens because it doesn’t leave behind a white cast.
