Buying organic sounds great in theory. Then you get to the grocery store, see the price difference, and suddenly that conventionally grown avocado starts looking pretty good. Fortunately, going organic across the board probably isn’t necessary if pesticide exposure is your main concern. The latest Clean Fifteen list highlights the fruits and vegetables that tend to carry the least pesticide residue — and some of the most common items in your cart make the cut.

Your Overall Diet May Matter More Than Processed Labels

Take It With a Grain of Salt: You’ve probably already heard the concerns about ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and their potential impact on your health. Headlines connect UPFs to just about every chronic disease out there, so it’s easy to start viewing anything that comes from a package as automatically bad. However, a new Harvard study suggests that your overall diet quality may matter more than whether the foods you eat are ultra-processed.

The Study: Researchers followed more than 200,000 adults for decades, tracking their diets alongside chronic disease and death. They sorted participants into four groups based on diet quality and processing level, then compared health outcomes across all four. People in the healthy groups had lower risk no matter how processed their food was. People in the unhealthy groups had higher risk, again regardless of processing level.

The Takeaway: Your risk isn’t determined by whether something came from a package, as foods like fortified cereal or plant-based yogurt can still fit into a healthy diet even though they may count as ultra-processed. So don’t worry about granola bars so much; instead, pay attention to how nutrient-dense your diet is as a whole.

Keep in Mind: Most foods that would count as unhealthy are still ultra-processed, so the label still tells you something, just not everything.

Q: Could Your Skin Actually Function Like It Did 10 Years Ago?

A: Yes, if you address what’s happened at the cellular level. Most skincare chases the look of skin. But underneath the surface, aging skin is dealing with something more fundamental: declining NAD+, the molecule your skin cells rely on to repair and renew themselves.

That’s the gap Aramore was built to close. Developed by Harvard & MIT scientists, Aramore is the only skincare formulated to help skin produce NAD+ much like it did when you were younger — improving how skin functions, not just how it appears.

The result? Skin that’s stronger, firmer, and more resilient — skin that doesn’t just look younger for a moment, but stays healthier over time.

Singing In the Shower Could Help You Live Longer

You Should Know: If you’re the type to belt out your favorite songs in the shower or while deep-cleaning your house, keep it up. Research suggests singing may benefit your health in ways that could support healthy aging. Studies have linked regular singing to lower stress, boosted mood, and improved respiratory function and heart health.

Going Deeper: Scientists think singing works because it engages your body and brain at the same time. Controlled breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping lower stress hormones like cortisol. Singing also triggers the release of endorphins and oxytocin, which is associated with pleasure, bonding, and pain relief. Group singing appears especially powerful, combining these biological effects with the well-established health benefits of social connection.

Takeaway: You don’t need a perfect voice to reap the rewards of singing. Whether you’re singing in the shower, car, or choir, the act itself, not your talent, is what seems to matter.

Bottom Line: Singing won’t guarantee you a longer life, but by reducing stress, strengthening social bonds, and supporting mental well-being, it may help make your years healthier and happier.

Anxious About the Heat? Here’s How to Manage It

Climate Crisis: “Heatwave anxiety” describes the dread, irritability, or sense of being trapped that can set in during periods of extreme heat. High temperatures can disrupt sleep, increase dehydration, and raise stress hormones like cortisol, all of which make it harder to regulate emotions. Psychologists say this can leave people feeling more anxious, short-tempered, or mentally drained, especially if they already live with anxiety or depression. There are, luckily, some things you can do to manage heatwave anxiety.

How to Do It: Managing heatwave anxiety is two-fold. There are physical steps you can take to keep your body and home as cool as possible. But if you’re feeling “incredibly helpless,” like many who are battling excessive warmth without AC, consider connecting with others about it. As one doctor told the BBC, there’s “a huge perception gap between how concerned people are about climate change, and how much they think other people care.” Taking action, like signing climate petitions or learning more about climate change in your area, can help you channel your energy into something positive.

The Benefits: Both physically managing the heat and removing isolation from the equation can help keep you comfortable and keep anxiety from turning into a full-blown stress spiral.

Put a Hard Stop on Work Snacks

If you tend to graze through stressful tasks, create a small boundary. Eat snacks away from the laptop, put them in a bowl, or take a five-minute break instead of munching through emails. The goal isn’t restriction. It’s noticing whether you’re hungry, bored, stressed, or just trapped in a spreadsheet.
